taking back roads

When Michael said he bought me an early birthday gift from his work, I got a little nervous. Sure our house could use many things from his home improvement store but..for my bday? He said it was in his truck but too big to hide inside from me. I’m thinking a hose? Leaf blower? Vapor barrier material for the crawl space? But then he walked in with this:

My name is Emily and I’m in love with a Stand Mixer.

Funny story – Since the kids saw M give me a gift they wanted to give me something as well. Abby quickly started crafting and wrapped it up. Ben brought me an ink stamp set and asked that I wrap it for him..to give to me. 🙂

Celebrating #8

We surprised Abs with trip to Atlanta! We planned our weekend around visiting American Girl (AG)- where she picked out a new doll, Saige, her bday gift from Grammie & Grandpa Steve.

20130325-134451.jpg Each year AG comes out with a new doll and Saige is “from” Albuquerque. And has freckles. It was meant to be. 😉

20130325-134700.jpg We stayed at a Marriott close by the store. It offered an AG package – a room complete with pink sheets, towels and robes. Since there are 3 males in our family I thought it was best to skip the pink -and extra $90 a night. The hotel was a sea of little girls, many with tiaras on and their dolls with little matching outfits.

20130325-134859.jpg Marriott offered a special check-in area for the girl and her doll.

20130325-135046.jpg Another reason I picked the hotel was because it was one of the few that had an indoor pool. I had asked for an early check in, so at first we had the pool all to ourselves but later it would be full with dozens of squealing girls and dolls on lounge chairs. Matching swimsuits, of course.
Knowing that the store would be crazy only the Zagar girls went. Lydia slept through most of it. It was fun spending some semi-alone time with the one that made me a Mom!

Potty Time

Yes, the potty is in the middle of the kitchen.
And I’m totally bribing him with candy (Tic-Tacs).
This kid is stubborn.

Pray for me.

..tummy bubbles..

I had planned on posting pics from the musical from our REAL camera but, instead 5 Zagar’s are sick with what I believe is food poisoning from last nights dinner at a Mexican restaurant.
Here are some pics i took with iPhone.
The cocoon I could have done. And though the wings didn’t have dowels or spring up like an umbrella, it was over my head and I’m so grateful to the one that put it all together!

Only in the ‘Bible Belt’ would a school function be held at a neighboring Baptist Church.

20130316-113324.jpg They really enjoyed the show! When A came on stage I’m sure everyone in the building heard J say, “There’s Abby!!”

Sorry about the lousy quality of the pictures! She did a great job and was sad when it was over.

Now back to my littles. Poor Michael had to go into work. 😦 Myself and the 3 oldest are moaning in unison our bed watching Saturday cartoons. It could always be worse…

spoonful of lovin’ {and a sneeze}

After picking toys up 800 times a day the last thing I want to do is clean up another mess. But lately I’ve been feeling guilty that I don’t allow kids to help out more with cooking/baking. So I’m taking a chill pill and worrying less about the mess and focusing more on the fun!

The helpers:

And Ray Charles 🙂

20130312-125311.jpg Today we made Strawberry-Lemonade hockey pucks Muffins. I’m no Martha Stewart. If the same recipe turns out tasting good twice its pure luck. After I cut up the strawberries, B sneezed right into them. Guess we won’t be sharing these with the neighbor.

20130312-125728.jpg (The cute knife is from Target, it’s duller than a butter knife, I don’t recommend it!)

20130312-131221.jpg Benny said he didn’t like the crust but liked the strawberries. Boy #2 had no complaints.

**The musical is tonight!! The costumes made and according to Abby its colorful and flow-y! Can’t wait to see my little butterfly perform!

Oh lordy this month is zooming along!!

So much to share, ready, set, here I go..

Abby’s musical is in 5 days. According to her teacher another mom is going to make her costume. What a relief. But one minor detail is that I haven’t talked to the mom, she hasn’t measured Abby…but I’m trying not to stress over this– it’s all going to work out, RIGHT?

Tuesday I did our grocery shopping and at the checkout I discovered I left my money at home. What could be worse than that? Oh I know!! A teething poopy snot everywhere screaming baby at the checkout whose mom has left her money and brain at home.

Last weekend we took a day trip through GA and NC. We’re a skip and a jump from both states and both are Beautiful!! A co-worker of M’s said we had to try ‘The Dillard House ‘ while we were in Georgia.

It’s Southern style all you can eat type place. Except there is one menu and they bring all the dishes out to you and you share, family style. It was a fun experience but totally overwhelming with how much food you get (and waste!). Abby said it was the most elegant place she’d been to…as we drank from mason jars, Ha!

Click HERE to see a youtube vid of Food Network’s Alton Brown talk about it. Fun fact- we sat at the same table they show in the clip!

And last but not least; in February we had our first out of town visitors. Michaels parents had been on a cruise that left out of Florida so on the way home they made a quick weekend stop here! It was a little rough at first. L would SCREAM everytime they looked her general direction. But by the end of their visit she warmed up..as long as I was within her view 😉
We ate, laughed, shopped and ate some more! I think I gained 10lbs while they were here. We took them on a drive through upstate SC. It was drizzling, cold and foggy so not the greatest day to take a tour but we enjoyed the ride. Sunday was Spring-like so we took a stroll through downtown Greenville.

Two days was too short. Goodbye was harder than the first time around. Last time boys were clueless, but when Josh started to cry, so did I!

Come see us! We’ll take you to all these places too! Plus there’s still Charleston, Myrtle Beach and The Biltmore to see!!

eight months

Where did February go?

Lulu {As I like to call her} is 8 months!

20130301-230051.jpg She’s not any closer to crawling..or sleeping through the night..but she sure is adorable!

20130301-230241.jpg Somewhere under that chub is a knee!

20130301-230446.jpg She smiles all the time but it takes some work to make her laugh.

20130301-230614.jpg But, she’ll let out a squawk if one of her siblings takes a toy away from her.

Later this month, someone else will be celebrating a birthday with the #8

20130301-230913.jpg Somebody hold me – How can she be eight already?
