taking back roads

Here’s what we’ve been up to..

Checked out the library in nearby town Easley. Amazing. Seriously, best library I’ve been to. Huge kids section. Fun toys to keep Lu occupied….Look past baby sister and you’ll see the boys practicing for the WWF

This week I tried Mello Yello & Mnt. Dew for the very first time. Both drinks are BIG out here and in conversation I mentioned to Michael I’d never tasted either. He looked at me like I was crazy and brought each home.

I decided last year fall I was going to grow my hair out. BUT

SC heat 1, Emily 0

It was to the middle of my back and couldn’t take it anymore. 10″ off and donated to Locks of Love.

One of my goals this summer is to teach Ben to read. It’s not going to be easy. He’s ready and he wants to read but he doesn’t want to work for it (he’s his mothers child!). Tuesday he sounded out and read:

We took a evening trip to the Botanical Garden

This tree smells exactly like Juicy Fruit gum

We had dinner with a Princess

Myself and the younger 3 have been scoping out the local parks. Benny always says, “I wish Abby could be here.” He’s one sweet kid!

Here’s a pic J took of Lu while we waited in line to pick up Abby. I can see more toddler and less baby in her

And lastly, here’s my first stab at crocheting wash cloths.

They look a little more Montana and Colorado shaped but I’m not giving up yet ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a great weekend!

Cat Fishin’

Abby has asked practically since the day we arrived in SC to go fishing. Mike Jr and his fiancรฉ, Alison, bought her a fishing rod for her birthday. Now she REALLY wanted to go, so a couple weeks ago Michael planned, as they call it here, a ‘cat fishin’ trip.

Oh, Joshy!

It’s all fun and games until little baby sister touches you.

Ben wants to hold L alllll the time, but Josh- no way! She snuck up on him while he was sitting on the floor, barely touched him and the world came to an end. He turns the charm on for grandmas but his own sister- he wants nothing to do with her!
I caught him playing interacting with her last week.

20130521-123600.jpg She squealed with delight as he pushed her around!
I hear him often say:

Wydia too loud- makes my nose/ hands/tummy hurt.

Wydia stinky.

Me no like Wydia.

Wydia looking/touching/laughing at me.

Wydia stop touching my toys and play with your baby things.

They sit next to each other in the van, I must like to punish myself because he complains 95% of the time. Hopefully when they’re older, they’ll be the best of friends and we can laugh about the times he cringed when his little sister touched him.

Benny Boy

20130518-194950.jpg No longer a preschooler. He was so excited about graduating. Even more so about singing!

“Get there first!” he said.

And first we were, front and center! When he walked out on that stage I got emotional. He sang with so much pride~ looking at us often with his sweet smile.

Hit the brakes, these kids are growing up way too fast!

About Me

I know it looks like all I do is take a million pictures of my kids, but there are other things I enjoy doing. Or at least try to do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The ball of yarn is my attempt at crocheting dish rags/towels. Its also baby steps to living more ‘Green’. Paper towels aren’t cheap and my kids are notorious for grabbing a dozen when only one is needed. After looking on Etsy (if you don’t know about Etsy, google it, I love it!), I decided I’d make my own dish rags. Thank goodness for YouTube tutorials!

On to the books..

1984, G.Orwell- Read in high school but I can’t remember it so I decide to reread, to see why it’s one of Michael’s favorite fiction books.

Water for Elephants, S. Gruen – I only continue reading this because it’s the assigned book in a Book Club I’m in. The Prologue was good but I quickly lost interest and can’t wait for it to end. It’s very Nicolas Sparks..but more adult…maybe I should just skip the rest and watch the movie ๐Ÿ˜‰

South Carolina Curiosities, Perry & McLaughlin- Odd, funny, crazy stories about SC people/places/things.

The Reason for God, T. Keller- Another book club read. For believers, seekers, skeptics, doubters as to why Christians believe what they do and why. I’m only a few pages in.

I’m not sure why I’m trying to read 4 books at once??? Or why I just came home from the library with 2 more books. One book seems like a lot with all of my momma/wifey duties! But with only 3 weeks of school left, I know soon reading time will be non-existent!

What are your favorite books or recommendations?

Her scream is similar to the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park. She’s not in focus because she’s throwing a fit.
