taking back roads

12:39pm

Washing their shells from the beach. Should keep them busy (read: out of my hair, not fighting) for a little bit.

Zagar Family Trip

If looking at someone else’s photo album bores you to death, then skip this post. We had a great time with Grammie and Grandpa (Drampa, as Ben calls him). Here’s a few (dozen) highlights:
Had a blast in Charleston, SC! On our way down we got caught in a CRAZY storm. I’ve never seen rain come down so hard, so fast and so much at one time!! Luckily the storm only lasted a day. Beach, carriage ride through historic Charleston and a visit to a 300-500 year old tree were my fave’s.

Google “Angel Oak Tree” for more info on tree.
After 3 days in Charleston, we made a pit stop at home, and packed up for a short drive up to Asheville, NC. Took a drive on Blue Ridge Parkway – amazing views!!

Then it was on to Charlotte, NC. This was our first time there and I know we’ll be back soon! Such a lovely city! Downtown reminded me of a smaller NYC or Vancouver. Gorgeous homes -huge historic mansions, tree canopied streets… And an excellent children’s museum. (Also Ikea, Crate & Barrel and Container Store. Drool.)

There’s an area to make shoes using scrap fabric, cardboard and duck tape. I made a shoe for Ben:

And Michael made one for Abby:

Clearly Michael is the better cobbler of the two of us 🙂

Yesterday we spent most of the day in Greenville, doing some early birthday shopping for Lydia and Ben. Last night We said, “It’s see you later, not good-bye!” but regardless it’s hard!! We laughed often, we ate a lot and we were spoiled tons!!

Summer snapshots #1

Kids have been out one week and I’ve already heard, “I’m bored!”

Sigh.

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:

20130614-145611.jpg
It’s rained a lot this past week. Past 2 weeks..past month…Enough already, please.

20130614-145948.jpg
It was 4:30, we were outside playing catch and they were still in pj’s. Don’t judge me 😉 It took a lot of bribing to get these two to pose together.

Pj’s at 430 and toothbrushes stuck to the wall and thrown on the floor. Guess we’re throwing out all the rules this summer..

I see lots of ice cream cones in our future.

One-on-one hang out with dad. Sweet boy used some of his tickets to get a necklace for sister.

Next week: Grammie & Drampa come in and we’re headed to the beach for a few days!

Last day

All A’s, all year. Her teacher awarded her with a certificate for “Most Eager to Learn”
That must be a nice way of saying “asks a million questions!” 😉

She is one smart little nugget though!

So very proud of her!

11 months old

this month…….hmmmm….not too many new tricks.. she slept through the night maybe twice, whomp whomp.. she does do a super cute nose crinkle though. waves “hi.” oh and makes the loudest shrill scream i’ve ever heard.ever. makes your ears bleed.

so here she is, eleven! months old and not one bit in focus. [don’t worry, I take a lot of pics with a {real} camera too- iPhone pics are just 200x easier to post 🙂 ]

…root for the home team!

Yesterday morning Michael said he had a surprise for us: We were going to a baseball game! I was the most excited! I’m this house, I’m the sports fan!! I’m the one that wants to see the Clemson football games, watch the Superbowl and in 2001 when we went to Yankee Stadium, M was happy to do the concession runs, bored out of his mind.

The Greenville Drive is the minor league team for the Red Sox. It was a 7 o’clock game that lasted 12 innings and worth every minute for the awesome fireworks show at the end.

Parking is free and so is the Trolley ride to the stadium. Kids loved it!
