“five, but still feels like four”

20130729-221104.jpg
It’s Benny Boy’s birthday! Seems like only yesterday I heard his first cry. Abby sounded like a kitten purring when she was born. Ben however let out a giant Roar! I thought it was a sign of how loud he’d be in the years to come — he’s the quietest one.

He enjoys drawing roads and building with blocks.
Loves LEGO’s.
Not really a fan of books.
Could careless about TV and movies. He likes to find Uncle Ben’s rice at the store.
Sings along to Benny and the Jets.
Favorite color is orange.
Bunnies are his favorite animal.
Best sleeper out of the four.
Breakfast for dinner.

Getting X-ray on the piggy bank child. Kids were able to see the film (I had to stay back due to HIPPA). The tech did say that it was past the stomach so we should see it soon!

4:58pm

From the boys’ room I could hear gagging, seconds later one of them comes out:

“Money in my tummy!”

Me: You swallowed a coin!?

Curious child that will make me gray before 40: Yes!! {cautiously smiling, afraid he’s going to be in trouble}

Me: Which one (holding out penny, nickel, dime, quarter)

Curious child: That one (points to nickel)

Neat. Now I get to dig through poop to make sure it’s passed OK. It wouldn’t be *so bad* but, this kid, he’s a pooping machine.

It’s the first day of swimming lessons! Joshy is usually fearless but he’s being a little more timid and Benny is now the brave one.

Summer Snapshots #2

It has been such a wet month. Last week alone we got 7″ of rain. The nice part is, it’s been cooler. Mostly it rains overnight but still cloudy throughout the day – which is nice when you have albino children 😉
This year I really took the time to plan out our days/activities. It’s paid off. There are still days when the fighting drives me nuts and the whining makes me want to scream but overall I think this has been our best summer. Here’s what we’ve been up to lately:

(Beavis and Butthead much? Real mature, I know but it’s funny ;))

We actually celebrated July 6th because of the rain

20130713-150556.jpg Taken at the Downtown Greenville Library – the most awesome, well planned out library I’ve been too. Kids area is off to the side and there’s tons for them to play with. I don’t have to constantly “Shush!” them.

20130713-151329.jpg Drawing by Ben. Dads leaving for work, Abby and Ben are playing in front yard, I’m in the kitchen making them a snack, Lydia is napping and Josh is in his room (in trouble).
It’s a pretty accurate description of our days.
Josh actually has been doing a lot better with baby sister. A couple nights ago he asked to hold her. Amazing.

20130713-152341.jpg I found him resting on his nap mat, he’s so excited to start “real” school!

20130713-152557.jpg I noticed dusty handprints on the coffee table last week. I still haven’t cleaned them off. Gasp! But really, who cares – it’s summer, it’s going to get messy again and plus, I like seeing those little hands.

20130713-153213.jpg His little hiney was hanging out, I had to take a pic -too cute! As you can see its not just the dusting I’ve let go.. It’s pretty much all of the house. And honestly, it feels good to relax a little. Most of the time it’s picked up before bedtime. But if not, oh well, there’s always tomorrow 😉
And lastly, here’s what the kids and I did today: Railroad Museum – only open once a month and its a work in progress, but kids loved it! The fire station is next to museum so we did an impromptu tour of it as well. Before heading back home we picked up Sonic and had a picnic at Clemson. Such a beautiful campus!

Unfortunately I couldn’t find one of Abby on computer. But I remember she had a mop of hair down to her shoulders and could already talk your ear off 😉
Here’s a couple more from Lydia’s big day.

the big ONE

lydia hope, you’ve kept me on my toes since day one. (just when i thought i had this mom thing down too!) home birth turned (literally) into scheduled breech c-section turned (again..at the last minute!) into induction, delivering in hospital bathtub. your labor was the hardest, most painful but my favorite birth story. you haven’t been the easiest baby either. you’re by far the loudest. and hands down, worst the sleeper of them all. you are already fiercely independent. your shrill makes the dog run. but your sweet smile melts my heart. you get cuter everyday. and you are so loved!!

birth: 8.8lbs, 21″
1 year check up: 19lbs, 29.5″
