Second Night

Last night went much better. I slept from 1030-715 and in my own bed! I feel like I’m 9 months pregnant – when I have to get up,  I kinda roll back and forth until my feet hit the ground.

Before bed I  skipped my dose since I wasn’t in much pain – but when I wiggled out of bed today the soreness really hit me and I took one this morning.
My appetite is getting better, but I’m still sticking  with chicken noodle soup. Last night I had a bowl of bran cereal.. {{About to get personal here, potty talk.. Turn away if you can’t take it}} I’ve yet to go to the bathroom, bathroom..Thursday, before surgery was my last BM so I’m a little nervous! I drink H2O nonstop and with the vegetable stock, carrots and celery in the soup, I’m getting some fiber. I’m up walking around, doing light stuff around the house, yesterday I did a load of laundry. From what I’ve read online, BM issues can be a problem with those sans gallbladder.. Guess I’ll have to wait and find out..but hopefully not wait too long. Eeeek.
Today and tomorrow I have the house all to myself.  Mom has kids and dog and M is at work. Most of the time it feels like our house is going to explode from the noise and number of children running around but right now its so empty and still. Kinda weird. Kinda nice too, ha. There’s a list of things I could be doing or cleaning but I’m going to try to relax and heal. I hope you have a wonderful day!

24 Hours Post Op

Night one went to be expected – very little sleep. I started out in bed but that lasted for about 10 minutes. I ended up on recliner, waking up every 1 to 2 hours from pain/needing to use bathroom/kids. Child #2 woke up around 130 from a dream and wanted to sleep with me, then sometime after that the  dog heard something outside and growled > barked> scratching to get out. I may have threatened him with his life if he didn’t stop. I was awake again around 4am and took a pain pill, again at 440 when J decided to turn on every light  in his room and bathroom to pee. When he spotted me and Ben in the backroom he decided he needed to join us. I sent both boys back to bed, which prompted the sirens to go off (crying). I then decided I had enough fun and woke up Michael to deal with them. Lydia then woke up and wanted only me, more sirens. All I can do is laugh and hope I get a nap today!

Other than lack of sleep I haven’t done a good job staying on top of medicine. Yesterday evening I accidentally let five hours pass, instead of taking it every four. Then overnight I did it again. Some one call me at 8am, make sure I take my next dose. 😉

A lot of the pain I feel is from the carbon dioxide, bloating –  hopefully that’ll be over with by this evening. The incision in my belly button is  really sensitive. I feel best when standing but get a little dizzy. All my incisions have surgical glue, kind of a weird feeling.

This was my first gallbladder attack (I think while pregnant I’ve had some mild pains- but that can be common with pregnancy.). The night before my attack I had gone to Panera with friends, had a 1/2 turkey sandwich and a chai tea — so not like it was some heavy greasy meal.   But neither of my parents have their gallbladder so I guess I can blame them? It’ll be interesting to see if our kids have any trouble with theirs.

Everyone is up, time to get kids ready for school! Ben has a field trip to a farm and J has show and tell – both are equally excited! TGIF!

Cholecystectomy

That’s just a fancy way of saying “Gallbladder surgery”. Which is what I had done this morning.

image

M said I looked pretty rough — I felt pretty rough. Giving birth to a 10lb baby without an epidural was less painful than the way I felt after surgery. I’m better now though, I’ve got some good drugs in me now. 🙂

This was a scheduled surgery.  On Saturday, September 6th, I woke up with sharp shooting pain radiating from right side of chest, up around shoulder and down arm. I literally thought I was having a heart attack. I’ve never experienced pain like that before. M said I was just having severe heart burn – which I’ve never had before. I tried tums, apple cider vinegar. Nothing helped. M’s motto when he’s hurt is ” walk it off” – I tried walking it off but by Sunday night I was hurting even more and after Googling all weekend long, I was convinced I was dying. 😉
I went to the ER around 7pm and it was packed. Its also a teeny hospital, so resources are pretty limited. After several hours, an EKG, lab work and chest x-ray; the doc decided it must be gallbladder. But they didn’t have anyone to do ultrasound so I was sent home. Tuesday I went back for ultrasound – no stones, so they did some cool radioactive dye test which showed my gallbladder was only functioning at 6%. Sent back home to make appointment with primary doc to get referral for a surgeon. Two weeks later I met with him and today’s surgery was set.
Its been a long  6 weeks of waiting for today. I’ve had a diet of chicken, eggs, toast and crackers. After this I never want to see those foods again. Pain has been managed with meds. Plus side – I’ve lost 10lbs. Downside: I’ve been pretty irritable and tired almost the whole time.
But it’s over! In a few days I should feel a lot better. In six weeks I can return to gym and regular activity. I still have to eat the bland diet for 2-3 more weeks though. I’d kill for some fiber – like a salad! And cheese..Maybe some ice cream too. I’m thankful though that coffee didn’t bother me, or I just wouldn’t have survived, ha.
M has tomorrow off and then my mom will take kids over the weekend and then he’s requested time off Monday – Thursday. All the kids care about is Halloween — I MUST be better by then!

Two cutest doctors in town were working on my gallbladder earlier this week. J said he could do surgery for me.

Mission Impossible: Family Pictures

Lydia’s expression pretty much sums up my brilliant sunrise idea. It was SO cold. I owe them big time for dragging them out of bed yesterday. They were troopers though, and M was so helpful/encouraging, going along with my silly plan.
Here are a few of my favorites.

Rise & Shine

Setting alarm on a Sunday to take sunrise pictures. 43 degrees. 4 kids. Making memories. Or just blood pressure to rise. Bribed with donuts. Hoping for a couple good shots!!!

She fell asleep on the way to pick up big kids and amazingly stayed asleep when I transfered her inside.

She’s getting so big – I’m going to really miss this.

9:45am

I post this as I’m hanging out in the closet with Lu and Tucker, the dog. We’re under a tornado warning. The sirens went off so there must be some activity within 15miles. Lu thinks this is a fun game. The dog is practically in my lap. The big kids are at school, prob in tornado drill position. A&B were supposed to have field trips today, so they prob aren’t too happy right now.

Here are a couple pics I took yesterday (all with phone):

I drive by this field multiple times every day. In the morning on our way to school , the sun is just rising and shades of  pink and orange light up the sky; its a breathtaking view.

Yesterday was also our twelfth anniversary. This was taken on our honeymoon..

Me and baby face Zagar. Thank goodness for facial hair, ha.

He knows me well.

The warning has expired, time to play!! Have a wonderful day!
