Lydia & the other 5.

That’s really what this blog should be called. Guess I’ll have to close down shop when she starts running from the camera.

Not a lot going on this week. It’s been chilly (for us wimpy southerners), so we’ve hung around the house pretty much all week.

image

Those are Abby’s old pj’s – this is the last winter they’ll ever be worn. Bittersweet.

Her tent from Uncle Kyle & Aunt Cait — she LOVES it.

Those tootsies.

And Michael actually took these next two!

So sweet, he captured a great moment!

But THIS is my absolute favorite —

Oh.my.heart.

So excited to have another bedtime story reader in the house. πŸ™‚

This week she:

Dialed 911 from the emergency screen on my phone.

Used Carmex like it was body lotion.

Cut her own hair. (With child safety scissors, just to be clear)

She’s two. What’s she going to be like at seven? Or seventeen?

She is so sneaky. Does mischief equal smarts?

Other happenings:

A was ‘Star Student’ of the week. Go Abby!

B went 4 days with no clothing issues. Yay, Ben. Yay, me!

Had J’s parent/teacher conference. He’s doing great! Continues to be a leader in his class. His teacher is recommending him for speech therapy and thinks he might be color blind. We’re waiting to hear from school district if they will administer a test or if we need to go through our pediatrician.

Thursday we went to a hockey game. It was part of our Christmas gift from my grandma & papaw. We had so.much.fun!!! The kids were being so funny, trying to get on camera. And it was $2 hot dog night – bonus!

We were all yelling, cheering, having a blast! Thanks again grandma & papaw!!

We’ve also been doing a lot of swimming in the evenings. A lot of the time we have the whole pool to ourselves!

image

…Guess that’s about it.. Excited to have tomorrow off. Love those lazy mornings! Have a good week!

The Kids

Over the break B had little issues with clothes, shoes, etc. This week was a different story. There must be some anxiety about school which comes out in  sensory issues. I really don’t think he’s manipulating us – or trying to act out.  Once he’s at school he’s fine (I’ve talked with teacher – no issues at all with behavior, friends, grades..). And when I pick him up he’s happy, usually had a good day, excited to share about it. But then when morning rolls around its rough all over again.. It’s a really hard way to start the day.
He really doesn’t like me taking pictures of him, so I don’t push it. Which can be hard since I like to capture like every minute of the day. πŸ˜‰ I was overjoyed when he actually smiled me for when the camera was out.

He really is a great kid. And you should see his crazy dance moves.

And with this one, there’s no need to have an alarm clock.

image

I think he wakes up the sun and roosters.

Funny story – for bdays my mom takes each kid out to lunch and a store to pick out a gift. She took J to Toys R Us, but that was too overwhelming for him so he asked to go to Target (that’s my kid!). He ended up picking out character sheets (!!) And a little Minecraft animal -both pictured above πŸ™‚

He really likes to help out in the kitchen – especially if I’m making something sweet! Here he is helping me with applesauce pancakes.

Now Abby – she’s too busy this week for pics – aka face glued to  Kindle.

image

image

Her BFF gave this locket to her. It’s fun to hear about her friends, reminds me of the fun I had as a young girl.

And then there’s this mess..

image

I sent her to my room to nap since he was getting a little too sassy and when I checked on her, she was watching a DVD.

image

Now she’s just trying to cover her tracks, explaining to me the situation – the DVD player was already in my room, along with the Dora DVD. She just turned it on.

image

Let’s be honest, she pretty much rules this place.

image

And when your kids don’t want you taking their pic, you practice on their toys.

Have a wonderful weekend! I’m sure most of you will be staying inside. I’m babysitting a friend’s son and since it’s too cold outside we’ll be heading to Chick-fil-A soon. Let them get the crazies out in the play area, as I sit on the other side of the glass wall, the nice quiet side πŸ™‚

Happy Saturday!

Pictures, and more pictures..

This afternoon L crawled in my lap and fell asleep –Β  I realized I’d swap lice back and forth for a lifetime to have those special moments. I had this *little epiphany* that there are many parents childless or that  have lost a child, that would do anything to be holding their baby or be hugged by their kids – lice and all. So no more whining about lice. It’s horribly inconvenient – but that’s all that it is. A very minor inconvenience.
(That I want to stop, very soon ;))

Moving on.. I’ve been trying toΒ  carry my big girl camera around more,Β  take pics of something other than just the kids πŸ™‚ What a week to get out and take pictures — its been freezing cold!! Most of these the wind chill was in low teens!!

*I didn’t edit any of these, just left as is*

Beautiful sunrise from Wednesday morning.

image

Steeple from a Huge abandoned church – I want to know the deets on this church – what caused it to close? There’s almost literally a church on every corner, what caused this one to shut down?

image

image

I find this sign so interesting. It sits across the street from what remains of a demolished denim factory. The town’s population is just over 3,000, and a little under 10% of that population lost their jobs when it shut down in 2011.

(The following 3 are phone pics because my camera died while I was out, ha.)

image

(Don’t worry – I’m fully stopped, back roads, no traffic around)

image

Good reminder!

image

And this just reminded me of Abq, with all the orange barrels.
The next set are off M’s home-brewed kombucha (fermented drink made with black tea, sugar, yeast and bacteria. Found in the produce section, if you’d like to try some :))

image

I probably spent too long photographing these bottles but I just love the amber color and the bright light coming through the kitchen window.

And lastly, coffee.

image

I never even really liked coffee — But then four kids happened and I realized I NEED coffee. I was spoiled in the 505 with coffee shops all around, now its just home brew and a LOT of creamer. So maybe its more like, I like creamer with a little splash of coffee πŸ˜‰

Tomorrow I’ll post some pics of the kid – because I know that’s what you really come to see!
